hey guys,

Has anyone had issues with windows cutting out sound when you switch between programmes and having to manually change audio format (defaults to 32 bit studio quality but most programmes wont work above 24 bit dvd quality)
Are there any permanent fixes for this? The speakers work fine when used with my phone, tablet and linux machine so im assuming this is an issue with windows.

Using M-audio bx8-d3's with an m-track hub connected via USB

thanks

Which programs? My DAC only shows 32 but options, but I've yet to have an issue even with older games. Bear in mind that those settings in the control panel are largely ignored by modern software.

games are usually okay, spotify/chrome/anything thats at a lower quality wont play unless i manually change the audio quality in the windows settings.

I usually leave mine on 24bit 96KHz - there are several applications which will just glitch out at higher levels and/or play OK but is noticeably reduced quality and not much really takes advantage of it anyhow.

Any benefit to 24 / 96? I thought most games / windows were 16 / 44 so left my DAC on that but maybe I’m missing out?

Lot of stuff just uses 16/44 or 16/48 data - a few will use 24bit 96KHz for mixing, etc. which can have a minor quality benefit. IIRC 1-2 games have 24bit quality audio data and I have some music in higher quality so just leave it at 24bit 96KHz.

leaving it lower quality might be the way to go for now then
Not sure if theres any benefit with games at 24/96 but if you listen to CDs or any other lossless audio and you have the hardware to support it always worth putting it up

Remember wasapi will ignore whatever you've set that to, so you're fine to lock it down to something safe. 48kHz is a good choice for older games with compatibility issues (in my experience they're not fussy about bit rate).
