Hello, ive just upgraded to windows 10 on my works PC and i'm having a strange problem. When i turn the PC on it gets as far as the windows logo and then the screen goes black and nothing happens, However when i restart the pc it boots fine. This happens every single time and only boots on the 2nd attempt.

What could be causing this/Is there a fix?

PS : It is deffo a software problem as this never happened with Windows 7.

It depends what version of Windows 10 you are using. On the last Windows 10 insider fast ring version the "2nd boot" thing was a known bug. It happened to me everytime. Disabling fast startup didn't help.

On the latest version it's now been fixed.

Firstly, disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) Except mouse and the keyboard and then try to boot up.

I suggest you to place the computer in Clean boot.
Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

Hope this information is helpful.
