I bought windows 8 home from the Microsoft store a year or so ago. It's been bugging me to upgrade (for free) to windows 10 for a while. It says that I can upgrade for free for a year (up till around June I think).

I'm ready to go ahead and do that, but I also want to do a clean install of windows 10 as I have a lot of junk on my PC. I'm a little confused about how I should go about doing this.

Should I upgrade first then somehow do a clean install or should can I do a clean install somehow?

Download the media creation tool which creates a bootable USB for you. Install Windows 10 via that and it will give you option to do a clean install along the way.

That's how I'll be doing it this weekend when I put my SSD in anyway.

Make sure you do all the updates before trying to activate..

I did this last week and the creation tool does not give you the version that allows you to activate straight away with your windows 7/8 key

Install windows 10 / skip key activation / load into windows and apply all updates..

Next boot you will be able to use your windows 7/8 keys to activate
