So i had to reformat last night and it got me wondering, are the standard drivers that windows installs as good as the ones from manufacturers (or are they event the same?). Does anyone have any experiences either way?

Sorry, what i meant was does windows do a good job of downloading updates (for none windows things) or should i carry being old-school and install them myself?

Install them yourself as the drivers that come through windows update are normally out of date and some of those generic MS drivers that are used for certain components like SATA controllers aren't up to the job.

Quite hit and miss really - the Windows drivers mostly just work (mostly) but as above not always optimal performing and in some cases like GPU stuff might not have all the functionality and features compared to downloading and installing the full software/driver suite from the manufacturer.

I have installed the proper nvidia drivers, but i've not yet touched the motherboard ones (nothing else really needs additional drivers). Being that my motherboard is running a i7 2600 (to give you an idea of how old it is), i'd have thought windows might have more up to date drivers for it? I'll check tonight though as i'm sure if i try to install older drivers windows will tell me.
