You could always defer the update from 1607 onwards

Hopefully they allow automatic driver updates to be disabled easily.

So will this mean further destruction of the start menu and additional forcing MS Edge browser on people? The threat of removing MS Paint has thankfully been withdrawn (for now) though.

That's always been possible on Pro.

The fix was to roll back then block the CU download

I fresh installed CU when I upgraded to X99 and have had zero issues with stutter.
