having a problem on my laptop, i have file explorer pinned to my start bar but when i click to open it I'm all of a sudden having to wait 5-10 seconds before it opens its annoying me as my windows is installed on a 120gb M.2 ssd, which only has windows on it. and up until now loading times have been instant

so far i have tried;

file explorer/view/options/change folder and search options/clear to clear all file explorer history but this doesn't help.

also if i press windows key + E it pops up instantly

I've read online to go into regedit to completely disable Cortana but seems extreme.

can anyone please shed some light or give a few more options to try?

cheers

Can you post a screenshot of your This PC window?

To me, it sounds like you may have some mapped drives added that is causing Explorer to delay load as Explorer will try to initiate those drives/folders when you load it. Explorer.exe doesn't have a memory allowance as such.

But the fact that it loads instantly with WINKEY+E means it could be something else.

Un-pin the taskbar icon for it, press WINKEY+E to load it instantly, then right click the icon and pin that. Does it then load with a delay still?
