This must have been asked a million times, however I have searched and can't find.

Every time I install Nvidia drivers windows update soon after automatically updates over them.

The things I've tried so far.

1) Gone into control panel and under system settings -> hardware selected 'No' to device installation settings.

2) Following this guide on How to Geek and put Hardware ID's into device installation restrictions

http://www.howtogeek.com/263851/how-to-prevent-windows-from-automatically-updating-specific-drivers/

Despite both of the above, windows update still wants to replace it's own Nvidia drivers with latest ones from Nvidia web-site.

If you use DDU in safe mode it will remove the old drivers and does some buggery to the registry or something and prevents windows from automatically updating the drivers. I did a fresh install a couple of days ago and this was the only way I could stop windows from installing 372.90 with all the 3D gubbins that I don't want or need.

Just remember to run DDU afterwards and restore driver install to default if you want it.

Are you using the latest ones from nvidia's site? I've never had Windows replace their drivers..

Hi Bledd, yes using latest drivers from Nvidia. What happens is if I do a windows update, or just after a period of time they just get updated.

Last night I was having a late night programming session, and at 3am windows installed new drivers automatically, I was literary programming code as it did it!

Is there anyway at least to stop Windows installing updates by itself?

Right click My Computer > Properties > Advance System Settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > Select NO!

Then I would run DDU, then download and install latest drivers.

Last time I DDU'd my nvidia driver, windows reinstalled an older driver as soon I rebooted to normal windows. This is the first time it has happened. The only way I could stop it was to disable Windows Update in Services then start over. DDUs feature to stop auto update didn't seem to work.

C6, I tried this and it made no difference.

My experience is the same as weyland has written. I might try disabling windows update and start over again.
