windows 10 update broke my nvidia drivers

Hi all,

I am getting frustrating issues with my nvidia drivers, I just installed a pretty big windows 10 update, which took about 20 minutes and involved the PC going into some kind of update state like it did when I first upgraded to 10.

Anyway I go to fire up dota 2, and its set to some kind of stereoscopic red/blue 3d mode.

A quick google suggests I need to go to the nvidia control panel and turn off this effect, but I can't open the control panel.

I open the geforce experience and ask it to update my drivers.

Failed.

I ask it to do a clean install.

Failed.

I now have no 3d drivers installed.

I ask it to do another clean install.

Failed.

I still have no 3d Drivers.

Anybody else encountered this. I can't even get my second display running...

Oh and I can't even right click my desktop, it just locks out with a blue circular loading symbol.

Why cant microshaft leave my dam drivers alone...

Thanks for reminding me that DDU existed, i was getting too frustrated.

I have now turned off device updates for windows 10 so hopefully it won't try and pull this kind of stupid stunt again.

Presumably this was the 1511 windows update which was equivalent to the old service packs. I hate that Windows 10 by default forces automatic updates.

How common are driver problems with updating?

I have yet to do it. Want to take the plunge but i am not sure how i feel about my new PCIe SSD and adapter being put to the test with windows 10 booting.

AMD driver issues are my second biggest concern, i think most people have had a flawless upgrade but i dont want to risk precious gaming time until i have a full day spare to sort out any issues that might come up.

My Windows 10 insider preview updates all the time and I don't ever have issues.

Occasionally it'll install an older Nvidia driver than I was using, but that's easily sorted.

Yes it was this particular update, having learnt from this I have disabled automated driver updates on my media machine which also has an nvidia GPU.

As you already learnt this is a MS windows issue not a driver issue. The first thing to do on W10 is turn off auto driver install.

I've had 0 issues with drivers on 10. However I do not trust gfe either. Installing via gfe to me its a super bad idea.

Your using software to launch a check then to launch software installer to install a driver.

Mountains of possible issues their I still with old fashion method

Happened to me and PGI also. I loaded up ED as per normal and wtf... red and green 3D ewwwwwww :D

Yer wasn't quite so bad for me (was an insider preview update?) But it managed to basically disable everything I had enabled in nvcp and for some messed up reason turned 3dvision on :p.

No biggie, didn't even have to reinstall the driver, just set it all back up and away she go's :D

These things can happen unfortunately, it's ni major hassle to clean and install the driver again though.

I didn't look Paul and just assumed my driver had gone faulty. Went to the NCP and wouldn't open, so just did a DDU and reinstall and all good again. First time I have had an issue since being on W10 in truth and been very good as a rule.

technically its both windows and nvidia drivers issues; windows only pushes what Nvidia released to them. They released a broken driver - but yea window's pushing it automatically is annoying as hell.....

Win 10 is a good OS. I like it. But agree that this auto driver update thing is terrible!

I understand why they've done it. They want to make windows seem more seem less and less manual aka more like OSX, but they haven't implemented this particular feature transparently enough.

The OS during setup or first boot should ask the user do you want auto driver updates etc....

Its ms only for example w7 pushes out 345.6x yet latest from nvidia site is 363.53? Miles difference.
Their just lot slower at pushing updates out that fix bug for an ip to date os

To be fair I really like W10 as well, this is the only time it has frustrated me a little.

I can see why they have done it as well, it's just nice to have the option as an enthusiast to be able to pick my own graphics drivers.
