help please?

Try a clean install of windows 7, try updating to windowd 10 again or try Microsoft support.

In what way did the update "fail", can you elaborate?

Theres always a chance of an issue when you directly upgrade your OS that you have been using for a while to a newer one. So what I did was a clean install of 8.1 > no updates > upgrade to 10 via ISO on USB > Reset 10 for a fresh install of 10

This has worked for many people with an array of different error codes, have a go (It'll re-download Win10 so be sure you're good to DL the data as some people I've heard are still on capped connections?!)

1) Access this file location C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and delete everything there. (Note delete only content found there and not the Download folder itself)

2) Open CMD (command prompt) with run as administrator (admin privileges) and run this command: wuauclt.exe /updatenow

The Update Window should pop-up with downloading Windows 10 again, and if your lucky it will be the complete kit this time.

did a clean install of windows 7 last night and then used the deveoper tool to update and install windows 10 and it failed

may try to burn win 10 onto a iso and see if that will work

what do you think

does the usb stick appear in device manager?

you may need to do a format on the USB stick and revert it back to its default settings.

what version of Windows do you have running at the moment?

if you right click on computer and go to properties it should state the full OS title.

i think i am running a windows 7 enterprise editon, yeah the usb does show up and i have tried formating it.

i did upgrade to windows 8 a while back and reverted this back to 7 (i paid for the windows 8 upgrade) so would that turn my win 8 to a normal consumer version?

this is the error its a normal win 7 edition

0xC1900101 - 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation"
