Details here:

I was using ExplorerPatcher to disable taskbar grouping (which was a Windows 10 option), but this doesn't work anymore, because this update makes changes to the taskbar.

Uninstall any programs like this before installing this Windows update.

This is what happens installing 3rd party stuff. It’s why I personally don’t do it. I leave everything as it is as there’s less chance of something breaking. Not saying things don’t break but less chance.

I want things to work I don’t want to be fixing stuff all the time.

Yup, usually don't use any software that interferes with how the OS works. It's a shame it can't be changed in the registry.

All I can do is facepalm. (Don't say I didn't call problems like this).

Sadly some people who'll still defend this mess of inept development from MS.
After read your post like many of your posts blamed Microsoft developers. All I can do is facepalm.

Google and Samsung developers did the same thing with Android 13 when I upgraded back in November 2022 from Android 12 found some apps was not worked with Android 13 and new Samsung One UI 5, I tried downloaded new versions from Play Store and installed but it failed all the time because it not compatible with Android 13 and new Samsung One UI 5 or security updates. Did I blamed Google and Samsung developers for the mess? Nope! It took about 3 months for apps developers to fixed issues and released new versions that fully supported Android 13 and Samsung One UI 5.

Now I know why ExplorerPatcher are not worked with new buiild 22621.1344, I found out ExplorerPatcher developer Valinet had stopped maintained ExplorerPatcher since the last version 22621.819.52.2 that was compatible with Windows 11 November 2022 update he posted on 17 November 2022, it seemed he stopped maintained ExplorerPatcher and tested new Windows builds after that date. I noticed he closed issues section on 21 October 2021 to prevented people filed issues and also I found he closed public forums on 14 March 2022 posted to explained what happened.

Hi

In the light of how things have been evolving lately, I have taken the decision to limit the interactions on this repository. This means that Discussions, Issues, commit messages etc will soon become read only until further notice.

The decision is motivated by a couple of factors, which I will briefly summarize below:

  • Failure of attracting a developer audience for this project. Since I am still the only developer on this project, I don't really need all this infrastructure to keep track of current work; it gets in the way more than it helps.
  • These forums largely becoming anything but avenues for development. Although GitHub is a site primarily geared towards developers, approx. 99.99% of threads opened here are support tickets, feature requests, stuff marginally related to the project, ranting, trash talking etc. My vision was never to have this infrastructure solely as a support platform - I believe that can take place better in other places.
  • Difficulty in maintaining this project focused. Feedback and suggestions are great, but too much of that makes it difficult to manage growth and prioritize. This doesn't mean, though, that new features won't be added, but as always, the best way to have something desperately wanted now is to fork the project and implement the functionality yourself.
  • Constant disregard of community rules and application material (wiki, guides, README). This forums were never meant as a shortcut for skipping the README, ignoring the wiki, disregarding the written guides etc. Multiple "me too" posts were all too often made, despite the "issue' being sorted out already (like, EP not being tested on Insider Preview, and generally not willing to do so), or sorted in a similar thread.
  • My personal desire to spend a more controlled amount of time with this project. As some of you may have noticed (or not), this project has been eating a lot of my time, especially recently, but really, all the way since I started it. The journey's been great, it has taught me tons of stuff, but I really think it's time to move on, dedicate more time on awesome new stuff, concentrate more on my other different works etc. Of course, I am still using Windows 11 daily, so I am keen on using and having EP work the way it was envisioned, since I have come to depend on its functionalities daily.

What about the source? The source code will, of course, still remain fully public. What really changes with this is a shift in development model, from open development, to an AOSP-like model, where stuff is developed based on how I envision this application, behind closed doors, and the code is updated whenever changes happen, usually along new versions. Similarly, development won't stop. I don't know what your expectations are, but please refrain from calling the project "dead" and the likes. Considering this, please refrain from messaging me with feature requests, as, with all due respect, I really don't have time for any anymore.

What's next? I will close the forums here some time after the next major release drops, which should be today or tomorrow, unless something major happens (again). As you may have noticed, this latest release seems to never make it, having by far the most number of pre-releases, with almost 2 months since the latest release. On a brighter note, it's true that a lot of functionalities have been implemented since the latest release, and of course those take time to polish an get ready. Hopefully, with it finally being in the state I kind of envisioned it for shipping, it will make it to a release in the coming days.

Where to go for support? I don't necessarily have a recommendation for that. I have seen people discussing EP here, for example: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/new-version-of-explorerpatcher.1991/

Of course, I am thankful for the members of the community here that took the time to help and assist others, and tried to help keep the discussions on track.

The closure here is not (may not be) permanent, but will last until further notice.

Thank you very much and I hope EP serves you well.

@valinet

Valinet is the only developer who maintained ExplorerPatcher but cant keep up with new Windows Insider builds every week and he do not have time to add new features or fixed bugs anymore. Shame there was no one to help continue maintain ExplorerPatcher to fix bugs or add new features and forums was dead with no new posts since 16 September 2022.

Really very few people used ExplorerPatcher and now it look like they dont care anymore and abandoned ExplorerPatcher.

The point here anyhow isn't that updates break 3rd party software - at some point that is inevitable - the problem is people needing to use that kind of software just to make the basics of the OS work in a reasonable manner and that with the nature of updates to 10/11 and the poor quality of development these kind of issues are just going to happen.

In those situations you mention you are upgrading to a completely new version/variant of the OS not just iterative updates to an existing installation - there is a meaningful and significant difference. The other major difference there is that Android tends to for the most part, though some of the Google Play services like Protect are badly done, competently developed and you don't need 3rd party tools just to get basic features in the OS working in a reasonable manner...

How on earth you can even remotely side with MS developers beats me - they are a bunch of inept fools (I don't know how many major issues with the OS need to happen for you to realise...).

EDIT: Google Play Protect scanning is an example of very MS like behaviour though - it was sneaked in an update, breaks some existing functionality, has undesirable features (randomly disables apps when it feels like it and/or when not used for awhile without proper control of how and when it does that) which you can't take control over so you have to disable the whole thing despite some features of it being useful/necessary.

Valinet released new ExplorerPatcher build 22621.1344.53.1 hours ago that will be compatible with Windows 11 build 22621.1344.

StartAllBack also has a working version, just make sure you're up to date is all.

Edit*
Forgot to say updated Windows to Moment 2, no problems, took 2 mins and booted right back into desktop. Nothing immediately obvious changed, task manager's search bar is the most obvious thing.

Everything still clean and fast with StartAllBack.

No extra nonsense...

I just want Microsoft to add a feature that doesn't combine taskbar items until the taskbar gets fully populated.
