Hi guys,

My Dad has used the same laptop for ages now, stores all his work on it (documents etc).

He lent the laptop out, but when it came back it seems to be plagued with viruses.

When it starts up, before the login screen we'll get messages such as

C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\fips32cup.sys device driver could not be loaded'
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\port135sik.sys device driver could not be loaded'

Then, when I log in, it'll just stay in the blue screen and nothing else will happen.

Windows 2000 Professional.

Any ideas how I could work around a fix for this please as format isn't really an option.

Cheers

Who did he lend it to? Sounds like a bad idea..

both those files show as viruses in google

Download these iso files.

http://www.slax.org/get_slax.php
http://dlpro.antivir.com/package/rescue_system/common/en/rescue_system-common-en.iso

download imgburn to write those two images to seperate CD's

Boot from the antivir one first, and do a full virus scan

If you can't boot into Windows following that (try safemode first)

Then boot from Slax, you'll be able to get the files off, it'll load a 'live linux' os into memory (won't touch the hard drive), and you can copy the files over network or onto a usb drive using the Slax os.

These may sound complicated, but they're very easy to use
