Is it any good? Reliable?

That's it really. We'll be upgrading to Server 2k3 shortly and if i can cut the money spent by not having a third party solution they'd be most pleased.

Does it allow scheduled backup to tapes etc? Any limitations that i should consider?

I wouldn't trust it fully. Never had to do a full restore from it.

Perosnally I'd go with a bigger brand like Veritas, its a more proven peice of software.

It depends on what you're planning on backup up. We have file servers at work that backup just fine using NTBackup, where as on the Exchange box we use Veritas as it has more advanced features like brick level backups / restores using the Exchange Agent.

It all depends on what you need to backup.

Very true, if your running SQL DBs or exchange, you'll need a third party solution, but just for a file server? I might risk NT backup, which is only a very cut down version of Backup exec.
