Well then,

I've just upgraded from 32 to 64 bit and what a difference,
All my ram is now showing and my approx. total memory in dxdiag is now showing as 2668mb (nearly half a gig increase)

plus my system is running 100% smoother and a lot quicker.

just a quick question though...

Should I expect to run into compatibility issues now? lol

cheers

XP 64-bit had loads of issues
Vista 64-bit had a few
Win 7 64-bit I've seen very few

I don't know why anyone would use 32-bit any more

How much ram is showing under system properties ?

When XP64 was first released, I downloaded the 180 day job.

I had a couple of issues with my Modem ( BT Voyager 100 ) and my printer ( Epson C42 ) but other than that, it ran fine.

I put XP32 back on to go looking for the drivers etc, and after about 2 days I realised that 32 Bit is simply crippling my PC... Hell I was only on a Winchester 3200 with 2GB so that wasnt actually true, but so what?

I decided to get a router and a 64Bi compatible Printer.

Never used 32Bit since and its been a fair few years.

Similarly with Vista and now Win7 - Never used 32Bit other than to compare them.

The only issues I have come across is some hardware does not go in 64Bit and my thoughts are simple on this... If the stuff dont work in 64Bit then it aint worth using.

Never had a single issue in any 64Bit O/S and I think that it was when I moved to 64Bit that I stopped getting BSODs. I have certainly not seen one in over 5 years anyway.

It seems that they were 50-50 with win7 but since Vista was so problematic, and so many others were holding out for Win7 because of these issues, that they decided that Win7 would have to be 32Bit also

But yes, I certainly hope Win8 is fully 64 bit because Im sick to the hilt of so much progress being held back because of 32Bit ties
