Windows 7 / 64Bit Cant Install ACPI BIOS not compliant error

I have a paid for MSDN full access via work and as such have access to all the Microsoft library. I posted this on the Gigabyte so called help line and got nothing back. This is not an RC release I'm using its the official en_windows_7_ultimate_x64_dvd_x15-65922.iso

Can not install windows 7 64bit, errors with a blue screen saying the BIOS is 'not fully ACPI compliant' please contact your system vendor and STOP: error code 0x000000A5.
However it runs fine with 64bit Linux.

Anyone able to assist with this? I'm getting towards wanting to self harm.

Yes I have done, and emailed the Gigabyte support line.... nothing back!

If I do get anything back on the GA-MA790X-UD3P(rev. 1.0) mobo or I work a fix ill post it in here.

If you haven't done anything with the BIOS, then try resetting the CMOS or reflash with the F5 BIOS again.

Or, can ACPI be disabled for the install and re-enabled later on?

Having a look around, someone solved their ACPI BSOD problem by removing a newly installed stick of ram. Got any spares just to rule that out?

Yes tried all those Bios's and all fail with same thing... BSOD... also tried RC 7 = same result / tried 64bit Vista = same result.

Also tried removing the battery for a hour, powering up.... same again! tried removing all the ram and stuck some other ocz 800's from the kids PC.............. annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddd............same again!

For this mobo, all that seems to be listed on the gigabyte site is up to a F5, if you know of a route to get a later bios as you suggest I would be very grateful.

Tried calling Gigabyte customer support line in Germany, rings for a bit and goes to voicemail!! lolz.

Now I'm just waiting for the US to come online and ill pester them...

I tried just on 2 x sticks of RAM OCZ from the kids PC, didn't work.
Cheers for that, there is no memory hole option in the bios.

How the hell can you run a support line where your only client response is a voice-mail.
100% last time i spend any money on gigabyte crap....

I'm going to return this mobo and try and find another AM2 compat mobo with 2 > 8 PCIe

Need 1 for the 4670 & 1 for the LSi MegaRAID 8308 SAS (*and yes i have unplugged it and all drives for the test. 6 x 1TB drives + 1 x 500gb PATA for boot / root / swap).

Any suggestions?

I've swapped from onboard to Adaptec 1430sa (don't really want to spend too much on the raid card... I'm jealous of that MegaRaid though!) and it's going to take 17.5 hrs to zero 4 x 1Tb disks to reinstall (RAID-10)! Think I'll format them one at a time!

The RAID is dead easy to setup on the Megaraid and only cost me about £70 from ebay (2nd user) and works fine under raid 5. I only want it storing movies and such. The quick init function does have a bug in it so as long as you do a full init and from memory took about 3 hour for 6TB.

Anyhow, thanks for looking on that forum its much appreciated.

I reflashed the BIOS to F5 / dumped the battery again for 30 mins removed all the RAM and replaced with slower ram installed just 2 GB.

And it now runs Windows 7 Ultimate, Then stuffed 4GB of RAM in it.... crapped out 100%

MadMatty - Got me to thinking on the memory score... Cheers for that

I'm going to try with Enterprise 7 if its on the MSDN list next as Mel P suggests and see what the score is.

This is so weird... I have to know!

The RAM has been used for about 12 months with no issue its STD OCZ Plat DDR 800 1GB X 4. I changed the mobo lately because I bought an LSI MegaRAID SAS card and needed 2 x PCIe thats above the X1 that were on the ACER board, previously was running it fine. I have tried using the same type of RAM from the kids PC also same type and model OCZ albeit on an Intel chipset MSI. Both PCs have the 1GB ATI 4670's.
My ram functions fine in his overclocked core 2 with 4gb and Windows Ult 7, it had a full day soak test on left4dead and resident evil 5 with no lock ups.
I have tried my mobo with no SAS RAID and taking the power away from all the drives excepting the PATA that loads /boot /root / swap and the windows partitions. Still fails.

I have not tried XP 32, but I can say that 3gb @64bit on Windows 7 Ult works fine... Its the 128bit x 4 x 1GB is where the BSOD starts.

On the Acer board 4 x 1GB worked fine with Ult with no issue.

Grrr now having to run fsck on all PATA partitions again and SAS raid before i can re-install grub. Seems since windows screws with the boot loader it causes me to need to run full fsck before it will recogise any ext3 partitions to allow reinstallation of grub /mbr.
I'm sure there is a better way... but im sticking with whats safe for me.

Looking like its going to be a swap of a mobo or swap of 2 x 2GB of ram...

Jeez this takes me back to the 80's with early RISC ICL servers... LOLz

I'm looking for 4gb for the moment and then later upgrade it again 8gb as it normally sits there week in week out runing linux downloading and hosting media. Occasionally it will run windows when the kids mates show up for game time.

I'm afraid it doesn't, I have tried all the published releases.

I will try just the RAM 1st on the 5600 Dual core AM2 first.

New Info &

OK, this will be disjointed...

The memory 2 x 2gb on 5600 Am2 didnt fix the problem.
The problem lies with the disabling the sata on the mobo.
Have done some more testing with new ram and new processor.

I would appear the ACPI error is down to using a system with SATA bios disabled because im using a pata only for primary for boot / root / swap & windows primary and the megaraid SAS as the 6 x sata interface rather than enabling the onboard sata.

I expected the new ram to work at the higher speed and it didnt no matter which way it was placed, all resulted in having to use at DDR800 rather than higher.

**** NOTE: on 2GB only this works fine with SATA disabled... just tested (2 x 1gb DRR 800)

So I wanted to try a swap back and tried the ocz in non-gang mode and it worked both on the 5600 and the Phenom II.

This is getting really strange...

Will keep tossing it around and update... any suggestions welcomed.

BTW / the only SATA drives are on the megaraid SAS (6 x 1TB RAID 5) not the mobo and the SATA must be enabled even though there are no drives just to stop windows 7 complaining about ACPI errors.

This is doing my head in.... I deployed 80 Sun Servers over the weekend with my team and zero problems.. LOLZ

Just as a final update, Gigabyte and I have been talking and they acknowlege that there is a bug-ette in the BIOS vers 5 and below and have released a modification in alpha form to me based on the rev 5 BIOS to test.

Will post the results when i get round to flashing it.

So if you are getting errors, prepare for a long long dialogue with them!
