Windows 7 64bit Install Problems!

Hi guys, just bought a new system from OCUK and put it together myself.

I can install XP 32bit fine, tried a "modded" version of XP 64 bit and it worked for a day then crashed, so I ditched that. I want a 64bit OS to allow me to see all 8GB of RAM as I'm only seeing 2.5gb on XP 32bit. Whenever I install Win7 64, the installation completes, restarts the pc then gives a 1sec flash of the BSOD and then just loops over and over again.

Google says it may be a bios version issue, but I'm not sure where to go from here as my mobo is on the latest bios already.

I'm running the system on XP 32 bit at the moment, but it's not quite right, getting errors here and there and certain things wont run (like IE for instance). It's all doing my head in!

the items I purchased are

AMD A8-5500 3.20GHz Quad core,
Asrock FM2A55M-DGS DDR3 Motherboard,
Patriot Viper 3 8GB 1600MHz,
Stock AMD CPU Cooler
(As a bundle)

Toshiba 1tb HDD
Basic case including 500w psu

Got my old HDD connected in there too for additional storage.

looks like you have a hardware fault. i'd download memtest to test your ram and also give your hard drives a check using tools from whichever manufacturer made them.

The biggest problem is with the Windows 7 installation. At least XP runs!

Err..what? Who said I am ignoring it? Just stating a fact that I can use one OS (its not perfect) but the other is unusable. If I can get a 64 bit version running error free and at optimum performance then that's my main goal - not ignoring issues on the way there.

I've not had a chance to do the Memory test, but going to do it now and see if it flags anything up.
 
I just tried installing Windows 7 64 Bit on my old HDD and got the same issue. Managed to get a picture of the BSOD -



Any help is MUCH appreciated :)
 
Thanks for replies.

I ran two passes with Memtest and it didn't show any errors.

I removed the RAM modules separately and switched them etc, no change.

32 bit XP seems to have settled down. IE wouldn't open at all, I get a DirectX error when trying to open a game that usually works (all latest stuff installed)

RAID is disabled in the BIOS, and have tried to install Win7 with it both set to IDE and AHCI on separate occasions, seems to make no difference as it gets to the same point and then BSOD's.

Could it be a BIOS version problem? I'm on the latest one for motherboard (from the install cd)
 
I have been disconnecting whichever drive is not in use during the install, and the problem has been happening with both drives so ruling out duff drives (as they run xp). Sara cables, maybe, but I have swapped them about a couple of times. Worth another shot though.
 
Haha, legend.

Sometimes you don't have everything you need to hand. I had two versions of Windows 7 64 bit, neither worked. I asked around for another copy and in the period of time before I got that copy I wanted to try some other stuff in case it didn't work. But yeah, facepalm away :)
