Windows 7 aero problem

I've recently re-installed Windows 7 64bit only to find that aero isn't working at all on my machine. So far I've gone through all the normal troubleshooting available, telling me to enable desktop display manager (done) and to change the theme (done). I've even reverted my graphics card back to previous drivers, but still nothing!

Any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Have you ran through the hardware assessment tool that gives your machine an index score?

If you haven't done this - aero won't run until that has been completed.

Windows 7 has problems with Aero and mismatched RAM sizes. This causes artifacts and other such weird effects such as partially working transparency with windows.

Mostly prevalent on laptops with 3GB RAM (eg. 2GB + 1GB) and inbuilt Intel graphics, the only fix for this hardware setup is to either remove the extra 1GB RAM or replace it with a 2GB RAM stick.

Yes something else that has basic colour settings is installed and running stopping Aero from running - As above, stuff like logmein can cause it!

I've never had to run the assessment on a new Win7 install to get Aero working before on any machine on both Win7 Pro and Win7 Enterprise.

Logmein caused this for me, too. I had to uninstall some kind of Logmein display driver from device manager.

I had this issue when I first installed Win7... Even after installing my gfx drivers - try uninstalling them and reinstalling them - worked for me :)

Oh, and I didn't have to run the assessment thing for it to work either, it just did - once the drivers were working that is

Other thing to try (first as it's easier) is try going into the customize desktop thing and selecting an aero theme - maybe it's just not selected
