Oops! Must have mis-read!

I would wipe XP off and then do a full install. No need to upgrade. And what CPU do you have? If it isnt 64-bit compatible then you will not be able to install 64-bit OS.

Ah, how do I delete xp? :(

I've got a AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 245 2.90GHz

Remember to back up everything first. If you format the hard drive you lose all data.

Set the BIOS to boot from CD and pop in the W7 disc and follow the instructions - easy.

Why isnt it working though :(

32bit loads but 64bit doesnt :(

the error message in your first post tells you what to do...

you can't upgrade from a 32bit OS to a 64bit one. so you'll need to backup everything first and start afresh.

edit: oops. far too slow. :D

How far in the Windows 7 setup process does it get?

Doesnt even start.

Okay, guys, how do I format my drive?

Also, when I try to boot frm cd at startup, it sayas 'press any key to boot..etc' but when i do, notihng happens, it just continues loading xp. I tried another keyboard and it's still not working

backup EVERYTHING to another drive

boot from the dvd

format the drive when installing (click advanced when choosing the drive to install on), always best to start with a fresh drive for a fresh OS

Boot from cd isnt working

when you reboot, set the boot order in the BIOS to DVD drive first.

or

your motherboard might have a 'hit F8 (or F12) to choose boot device' menu, this will be on the first screen.

what motherboard do you have?
