Hi,

I switched my pc on earlier and noticed that the taskbar was grey and I had an error message as follows.

"Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification
Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the
system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."

When I try to change the theme back to the standard Aero theme I cant as it is greyed out. I have looked online for fixes such as updating video card drivers, restoring the system and making sure the monitors are running at 32bit but nothing seems to work.

Btw im running Window7 pro now, not Vista as my sig would suggest

Does anyone have and suggestions?

Thanks

indeed, this happened to me when installing windows without all my graphics drivers (before doing a WEI)

Thanks for the replies.

Ive tried the method suggested with no luck. Not too sure what else to try, other than a fresh install in Windows.

WEI seems fine

I've tried to get Desktop Window Manager to enable but cant :(

This is really ...... GRRRRRRRRRR

hmm,

I was just about to give up after trying Run sfc /scannow with no errors and creating a new profile with no joy. I then logged back into my profile and its all working again.

Dont really know what i did, although creating a new profile seemed to do something.

Thanks for all your help

I would suggest you try this instead m8.

Open command promt as Administrator that is very inportant, right mouse click the shortcut
and click run as administrator.

then put the following command in

netsh winsock reset catalog

this should fix your problem m8, once you have run this command it will ask you to restart
your PC make sure you do this for the PC to reset the catalog properly.

Let me know if this works

:( that has not made any difference. The only thing that works if I logon to the new profile i made and then switch to my profile. I aint gonna do that every time i logon though.

You could always check if the System Event Notification Service is running, by doing the following.

Click on Start
In the start Search box type Services
Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.

System Event Notification Service Started Automatic

If it says that your service is not started the start it and make sure its on Automatic.

What would repairing the network stack have any relevance to the graphic issues?

I have seen it on a few forums before, it can sometimes interfere with other problems on
the system, I don't know why it sometimes works. Was just a suggestion that there is no
harm in trying.
