Does Windows 7 work good on a Netbook? I notice that the RC version is out in a couple of days. Can i download it to try on a netbook? Is it worth trying?

If you think it will work ok on a netbook, when will Win 7 be officially released for sale and does anyone know what prices Microsoft will be selling it for?

It is reported to run better. You will be able to download the release candidate next week (I think) so by all means try.

Release - Q4 2009 as recently admitted by some Microsoft employee (can't remember where I read it now) and I imagine priced similarly to Vista with "free upgrades" due any time soon with new PCs.

It's like w7 was made for netbooks. The OS just flies on my 2GB NC10. It's miles quicker and smoother in use than XP SP3.

Quite so. Just get the iso, mount it with say daemon tools and then copy all the setup files to a usb stick. Then i booted into XP on my netbook and just ran the w7 setup off the stick. A couple of mins later it was over.

Its quicker than vista on netbooks, but still not as quick as XP. But its really marginal. Basically, on XP i've got enough cpu on my MSi Wind to play 720p, in windows 7 not so!
