My usbs decided to.become disabled. I didn't have a ps2 keyboard handy so reset CMzoS by removing the battery. Before I did this, the OS loaded fine, now yhough I get a boot error message telling me to insert a disk. Tried to reload from CMOS my ocuk profile and made sure the date/time was set correctly. The boot sequence is hdd but I still get the error message.

Gigabyte ga p55 usb3
I5 760 @ 4.01 GHz
4GB corsair 1600 MHz RAM
GTX 470
OCZ 650W PSU

any help's greatly appreciated.

Resetting the cmos will default your hdd controller to IDE mode, if it was set to AHCI before that's why it won't boot ;)

Indeed, that did cross my mind but doesn't that usually result in a BSOD? Or is that just if you go from IDE to AHCI?

seems so you have had your pc open check your sata and power cables make sure they are plugged in

if they are fine maybe set your hard drive as the first boot drive

The error message is failed to boot please insert disk and press enter. Tried changing to AHCI no change. Tried RAID got a bsod when OS attempted to load but now running start ip repair. Apols for crap spelling etc. Replying using my phone. Repair didn't work (without disk) still in RAID and now the error msg is a disk read error occured.

You would know if you were, i had this happen, couldnt repair, infact i think the repair broke it.

When you say the boot sequence is HDD, do you need to stipulate HDD priority as well?
EDIT : Checked the manual for your board and it confirms you do need to stipulate which HDD is bootable. This only applies if you have more than one disk obviously.

+1

When I've had to reset my BIOS, I've had to set HDD to top priority AND go into HDD order, and put my SSD to the top. It took some figuring out the first time.

OP, you'll want to change back to AHCI or IDE first. I don't know if putting it in RAID can do damage to your data - let's hope not!

Usually you only have issues if you go from IDE to AHCI if you don't the registry edit first rather than the other way round.

Going to RAID should not damage any data this just adds a extra menu during boot.

Agreed. I've went from AHCI to IDE in the past, Windows still booted, and it took me two months to realise that the last time I had reset the CMOS it had reverted to IDE.

And no the data will be fine.

As others have said, make sure the correct hard drive/raid array is selected as the primary boot drive. Some times a USB memory stick will jump to the top of the list of boot drives.

All fixed. Swapped sata port thanks guys. One new problem however - the ethernet port deems dead, purchased a new cable and it works on another pc. Any ideas?
