Hi,

just installed a new drive into my PC and am trying to run the disk assesment and i get this error message.

I get no errors in event viewer and have updated chipset drivers. The drive is bigger than my old one, this one is now 500GB and Samsung, old one was 320GB maxtor, could an old driver be conflicting?

thanks,

Chris

If the drive is working OK and you're not seeing any errors then I'd just ignore the experience index, it's not in any way useful. If you want to benchmark the disk use a proper tool like HDTune.

Iirc the Windows Experiance Index only asses the boot drive. Have you cloned an install onto this bigger drive from the smaller one? If so the device ID may conflict with what Windows thinks is it's home drive.

As said the WEI is not worth a second thought. If I run it a couple of times it comes out with slightly different results

Ye cloaned with Ghost, drive seems to be running perfectly, thanks for the advice both :)

For completeness you could do a complete rebuild ;) I always have os, apps and games on one drive (a raid0 array in my case) and media and documents etc on another to ease the pain of reinstalls :)
