Windows 7 cd key problem

Hi guys,

I was going to format my mates PC today while I was upgrading some of his components. However we can't find his box with his original CD key. He doesn't have the sticker on the system either because like me and many other people think. It looks tacky. Lol.

However I can't re install his windows without the cd key. Is there a (safe) program out there can you can download and it will you the CD key?

Cheers mate I'll get it downloaded and take it round on a flash drive for him. He's just moved house so no internet for him, feel sorry for him haha.

If it was a oem install that came with the laptop/pc then the key jellybean etc will find isn't the same as the one that was on the sticker and wont work to activate it unfortunately

Edit: Just read your post again and realised it was installed from a retail disk so will work fine

Its a problem i have come across on many customers systems though....always best to note down the key before it gets worn off

Or you just use the recovery partition.

I should have added its when the hard drive has failed and no recovery media made

This is what I use, although Sophos keeps quarantining it as it is used for hacking

It can actually pull the key out the BIOS now. Used it the other say to get a valid key for a sysprep 8.1 install.
