Over the past couple of weeks I have been looking into the easier and quickest way to create an image of an OS drive to USB stick, then restore directly from this USB
I looked at Macrium Reflect, Acronis Trueimage and a few other pieces of software but all seemed to have un-needed features and made it more complicated.
It is much easier to create a Windows system image with Windows backup & recovery then restore using Repair on boot after pressing F8, or using a windows repair disk / stick
Steps;
Format 32gb USB stick to NTFS
Right click USB stick > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Share this folder > Allow full permissions. After applying this, copy the network path
Go to Backup & Restore from control panel
Create a system image
On network location > select > paste in the network location of the USB stick > enter windows username & password > select OK
Backup image is now on the USB stick and Windows repair on Boot can be used (either from built in or via booting from a USB repair stick / CD)
I have tested this on laptop with a 32gb USB 3.0 stick and restoring a 16gb Windows system image from USB takes 9 minutes from restore start to login screen.
A great disaster recovery method that is quick, free and requires no additional software
