windows 7 display problem

I've just installed Win7 pro edition and everything is fine except when the log in screen, the ctl alt del screen or UAC dims the screen I get strange artifacts on the screen.
I've included a picture of them.

Im using a Geforce 6800 latest drivers not o/c'd
Any ideas?

Have you tried re-setting you monitor at the screen shown?
Win 7 is a pain for getting the rez wrong on my CRT monitor and I had to press re-set.
