Hello All,

The last time I joined a Windows 7 Pro laptop to a network, the network users had to type the name of the computer and there username before they could log on to the domain.

Is there a tweak I can do so that the user just has to type their USERNAME and Password?, like on a Win XP machine?

Thanks in advance for any help and assistance with this :)

Yes you are right. Is there a way they can just type their username and logo to the domain?

Cheers again

That's what you do do. If the machnie is domain joined, you don't have to prefix it with the domain ie instead of typing domain\lucero, just type, lucero.

At the long on box, under the password, it tells you what domain the computer will log on to (or machine)

i tried to logged in as local admin account on domain machine, i had to use hostname\admin

but how to find out its hostname on welcome screen? lol

If you have a domain account, I'd log on first and then get PC name, log out and then log back in local account.. Oh and then note down the PC name for future use :p

Or you can click on the button under the logon box that says "how do i logon to another domain?" and it gives you the PC name in there :p

If you use the username "administrator" windows 7 defaults to the local machine unless you type in the domain name prefix, but if a windows 7 PC is on the domain it should always default to a domain logon for any other account.

EDIT: and if for any reason your PCs aren't defaulting to the domain even though they are domain joined you can set a group policy that will set the default domain for the set of PCs the policy applies to.
