Hi everyone.

I have just built new machine and tried to install Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The process is fine until the last step in Win installation where it says "completing installation", desktop just restarts and then says "there is a problem to start the windows. start win normally or safe mode" blah blah blah. Of course it will say that because it hasn`t complete the installation.
I just can`t understand why it is restarting. Is it hardware issue or software?
The Win 7 which I try to install is original CD/DVD from my Dell laptop.
In BIOS I can see that it recognizes all parts installed. I tried to change SATA settings from IDL to AHCsomething but no luck

I would appreciate any help or advice.

Specs:

Recovery disks install all kinds of drivers for the machine they were designed for. You have a nice system, stop being a ***** and buy a copy of Windows! :)

Sounds like it is probably the CD.

However, i have used a install CD that came with a laptop, on a desktop pc and the install was fine with no issues.

I have also just built a pc for a friend and we have the exact same issue.

Windows installs fine, ticks all the boxes then says restarting in 10 seconds. After that it gets to black windows logo and then just restarts.....?

This is with brand new hardware, and a genuine copy of Windows 7.

So just a heads up, may not be the CD - im still to resolve the issue my end :(

Thank`s

Was just looking on the internet they seem to sugest removing all your USB devices like your mouse and keyboard and try it? See if it doesnt restart.

I downloaded win trial and made a bootable usb drive. Installation went smooth until the last step again. the same problem came up!! any suggestions?

I'm afraid installing Win7 with BIOS set to IDE and then switching it to AHCI will cause even more problems. Windows will restart and try to load up an AHCI driver (which has never been installed).
