Windows 7 slow installation [Solved]

hi all

Had an i7 920, asus p6t x58 mobo and 6gb dominator 1600 ram arrive today.

i cant get windows 7 64bit to install. The installation just hangs on the first blue screen. after about 10 minutes the 'install windows' window appears. i can select the language and then click ok. it then takes about 15 mins to get to the drive select screen. when it does begin to install 1% takes a very long time.

anyone any ideas?

Regards
jim

Make sure all your sata cables are connected right. Same thing happened to me when I noticed my hdd cable wasn't 100% in.

Yeah and make sure it is a SATA drive. I've read a lot of people have had problems with IDE. Infact I did the other day aswell on someone else's system.

thanks for the quick replies. i check all the cables and they are fine. not sure how to disable the floppy controller. i couldnt find any reference to it in the bios. the drives are SATA. WD 1TB Green and and WD 500gb. I have changed the optical drives but this hasnt worked either. any other ideas?

It is in the Standard CMOS Features of the BIOS.

the floppy option is not listed there. maniacfest you have exactly the same system apart from i have the 850 hx psu. how do you setup the ram on this mobo? its really confusing!
Only one drive is connected and it still does the same thing.

You are the man!!!!!!
It worked! hard to believe it was the floppy controller slowing down the whole process.

i had the whole thing in bits, tried a different psu, 2 sticks of ram instead of 2, replaced every cable, tried installing vista!

thankyou ejr22 its really appreciated!
