Windows 7 installs, but only blank screen on boot

Hi,

So I installed Windows 7 (x64) yesterday on a spare partition, along side my Vista install. I wanted to do this so I could easily copy my documents across before removing Vista.

I installed Windows 7 using the bootable setup on the DVD, and I thought that everything was going ok. When the system restarted, it looked fine, but when it tried to load Windows 7, the screen just went blank. Well.. technically it's not blank, it's off. You know how you turn your computer off and the monitor must go into standby mode? Well it does that. If i unplug the DVi cable then the monitor switches on and comlpains of no input. Reconnect it and it powers down.

I have dual output on my video card, and neither work.

I tried a few tricks from other forums - booting in low-res mode and booting in safe-mode.
Low resolution (640 x 480) doesn't work (it does the same as usual), and safe mode does actually show something on the screen, but it informs me that it can not complete the Windows 7 setup, so it just restarts the computer.

I'm a bit stuck really, and would rather not return the product - I bought windows 7 because I wanted to use it!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

Video card: ATI Radeon 4850
Memory: 8Gb
HDD: 4x500 Gb (I've got Vista 64bit installed on disk0, and i've installed Windows 7 64bit on a partition of disk4)

Sorry misread your post. Are you currently only using one output because I only have one monitor however the other is plugged into my tv which is off most of the time and during installation.

yes. i am only using one output. that's why i switched my monitor to the other output on my video card just in case.

Have you got a spare graphics card or onboard graphics that you could use? Friend of mine had the exact same thing and it turned out his gpu was on the way out

windows 7 boot option "low resolution" is I believe implicitly VGA/analog
driver so the monitor will need to be connected via either VGA cable or
lacking that maybe a dvi cable that is includes the analog wiring dvi-a
(tft screen will also need to have dvi-a connectivity and be switched to
exploit it)
you are probably already using this http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/
