Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 my internet sometimes fails to work on bootup.

The little computer screen (network connection) in the system tray has a yellow triangle with an exclamation (limited connectivity) and the only way to fix it is to reboot the router, this never happened on Vista or XP.

Is this a W7 issue?

Its getting annoying now, having to reboot the router I every time I turn on my PC

I have a netgear DG8634 router, I have updated the firmware to the latest.

Any ideas?

Are you running 64 bit? If so there seems to be a general lack of support for 64 bit drivers for Vista and 7 from netgear linksys and probably others for the usb adapter.

Have you tried running it via an RJ45 cable into the router to see if the same thing happens.

I have just sent a new netgear wireless N router and 2 x usb adapters back as it couldn't manage a wireless N signal beyond 5 meters and at 11 m the wireless G was only 20%. With my old router it gives 80% at the same distance.

Thanks for the replies, it is wired mogwai, it isnt a wireless router and I am on 64bit.

So its a Windows 7 issue then, that narrows it down abit. Thank you :)

If it is a network cable you are using then it is not down to the OS as you are not using any drivers or software to access the router.

The only driver you are using is the one for your network card.

lolwat?
Even if it was wireless you weren't using any drivers to "access the router".
You'd need drivers for the wireless adapter, sure, but the issue with DHCP failing to work properly appears to be an issue with a particular vendor of network adapters anyway.

OP, as Duke suggested make sure you have the latest drivers. Other than that there isn't much you can do though restarting the router shouldn't be necessary - does ipconfig /renew, reconnecting the network cable or disabling and re-enabling the network adapter work?

I dual boot xp and win7 64 RC,and don't have any issues with either O/S and my netgear 834GT.

No problems at all here either on Win7 64bit Pro retail with the Netgear 834 router, did you update the LAN driver through windows update, as i have read that can bugger it up, so i never updated mine, as its working fine.

Updated all network drivers, tried ipconfig/renew. tried disabling and re-enabling network - Problem still not sorted :( Seems the only way for me to get on is to reboot it

I even did a W7 reinstall just to make sure I installed the network driver and not Windows and still get the issue.

Starting to peeve me now, every time I come home I need to reboot my router to get on the Internet ...

I use a DG834G V5 with Windows 7, no issues at all. I have static IP and DNS settings though, thought about trying that?

Problem sorted! :D

Ended up doing a Factory reset on the router, everything back to default and reconfigured the router for my broadband and jobs a good'un! :D

Thanks for all your help guys :)

Having a problem myself a little similar with win7 x64, is there a way to uninstall the windows update for network.
