I have just upgraded my CPU and mobo and decided to format one of my HDD's and install from fresh.

During the process installation where it's going through "expanding windows files"
it crashes randomly or I get a message about missing files so the install stops.

Yes I do have a genuine Windows DVD retail version, not the upgrade version.

Any ideas.

I formatted all my drives first but connected only one of them and no matter which one I connect I get this error. I suspect it might be a ram issue so I am going to wait until my Samsung Green arrives ant try again.

Never had this kind of problem before though when installing new hardware.

try them in a friends or family pc if poss.

check the windows disk for scratches.

i would try removing your ram and leaving one stick, then if it fails try the other stick, one at a time just to eliminate the ram.

I have already tried the ram one stick at a time and the Windows DVD is not marked. Is there any chance that my ram is not compatible?? I was going to upgrade soon but ended up getting 8gig of that Samsung Green that's currently on offer here at OCUK and am expecting delivery tomorrow.

Well I don't believe it. I did one final try of installation and it worked. I set it going and went and had my tea expecting no change and when I went back to the PC it was all done, Just installing the mobo drivers as I am typing this and then the CPU drivers and activate Windows.

Well I installed all the mobo drivers but I can't install the Nvidia drivers for some reason. It starts to install but fails every time.
When I look in Device Manager there is no display adapter shown.

What could be the problem?
