Windows 7 or Windows 8?

I have just received a new OC system and I went for Win 8 and I have to say I like it.... Once you get past the first were is everything stage lol

When Vista came out lots of people moaned about the reorganised control panel.

"Why did they have to move everything around, it was fine in XP."

"It now takes X more clicks to fiddle with my network adapter."

Most complaints diminish over time.

Windows 8 is a huge leap in performance terms to Windows 7 and Vista. The only drawback was the Start menu was no longer there.

A quick download of Start8 http://download.cnet.com/Start8/3000-2072_4-75732532.html and all is restored

Has to be the most crucial tweak you can do. Makes it a much more enjoyable experience having the Start menu.

I don't agree it's a huge performance leap. Generally it's roughly equivalent with 7, with the exception of boot/shutdown where of course it is much quicker and the odd benchmark where it does come out slightly on top.

Maybe 'huge' is the wrong word to use, I agree. But it is faster and more snappier, benchmarks do show this. The only one I guess where it is 'huge' is the boot up time, and shutdown. Resuming from sleep is also much quicker from my experience to Windows 7

Connecting to networks after sleep is slightly quicker too in my experience. Also the power management improvements help improve battery life performance.

Don't get me wrong it's a really good upgrade, but raw app performance is very similar between the two. It would be way down my list of reasons to upgrade.
