Peeps,

I own an Advent 4211c (MSI Wind). It is currently running XP SP3 with no problems however it is not the fastest... I upgraded the RAM to 2gb and it well is just ok!!!. I have access to Win 7 Starter edition (wont push my luck asking about win 7 Home Premiuim :D)and was wondering if its worth changing to that???
The netbook is used only for internet/odd movie on train trips and some excel work.. so nothing too taxing.
I know a lot of you will say if it aint broke dont fix it but i do like to meddle and if i will get a machine running slightly more efficient then i am prepared to do it..

Anyone else got it running on a netbook and can advise?? :)

2GB of RAM is more than enough for the tasks you mention, it's probably slow because of the rest of the hardware.

In regards to the OS there isn't any real difference between the versions in terms of performance, just features. If you are buying a copy I'd suggest the Home Premium retail copy.

Windows 7 is nice, but if you don't need it, upgrading just for the sake of it is a little pointless. If you didn't already have XP I'd say 7, but since you do, and since this is a netbook, my advice would be to save the money.

Win 7 Starter is awful and pointless.

Get Home Premium.

Agreed - my new netbook (Lenovo S10-2) came with Windows 7 Starter and whilst it's aesthetically nice it is also very restrictive. Not even able to change the desktop wallpaper as someone has already mentioned. I chucked another gb of RAM in mine and then put a fresh copy of Windows 7 home premium on it. Runs like a dream, which is probably in part due to the fact it hasn't got all the factory-default crap bloatware on it now ;)

ok, will Win 7 Home Premium work ok on it then??.. I didnt think it could handle it ok without problems??? If you say it can - then home premium it is!!

I have Home Premium on my NC10 and have upgraded the RAM to 2GB and it works a charm. Not the quickest of things but tbh it wasn't before either!

I think the windows boot up time is around 69 seconds ha!

Oh yeah mine takes a bit of time to boot but once it's up it works great - ooh err missus :p

I have Windows 7 Pro on my brothers AMD Athlon 64 3700+ with 1GB of RAM. Runs brilliantly.

2GB of RAM and yer laughing.
