As above really, for example i had some hard drive locations pinned into the windows explorer icon and they have now disappeared.

I have tried to pin/drop the locations back in and they just dont stick, honestly i am sure its something simple but its driving me crackers.

Help please

I had the same thing - I fixed it in the end and i think it came down to some 'helpful' background 'delete any broken/unused shortcuts' cleanup thing.

Try some of the suggestions here

I think I had to delete the items mentioned in that thread (in appdata) then i vaguely remember disabling a background cleanup service.. but that might have been to fix auto-deleted shortcuts on my desktop - not jumplists.

Cheers OCDude i was just about to post and say i had sorted the problem, this was the method used........

This process erases all the pinned items on all of your programs (you'll have to pin them again afterwards), but the functionality of the windows explorer jumplist will return to normal.

1. Delete all files at %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
2. Delete all files at %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations
3. Reboot
4. Re-pin all the items you wish

Cool. and yeah it's pretty annoying.

I was pretty miffed to find that Windows had magically decided to remove all my "dead" shortcuts on my desktop (the "dead" links were actual live links, but to items that weren't connected at the time - i.e. my phone's SD card, my Bluray drive and some other bits). What's more annoying is the fact that I had no idea Windows 7 did these kind of background clean-up jobs!

Oh well, lesson learned, glad to hear your jump lists are back at least! (well, after you've recreated them of course) ;)
