Do any of you know if the price of W7 is going to increase in 2010? I seem to remember reading prior to launch that it would go up from the pre-order price at launch (which it did) and then again in 2010.

Can anyone confirm whether this is true?

Pretty much is. OCUK's price is slowly rising because the supply they purchased cheap is dwindling down.

To say what Yewen told me a week or two ago in the OCUK preorders part of the forum:

"Our prices will be on a slow crawl upwards from here on in, settling a LOT higher than what they are.

If you plan to grab a copy in the next month or so I would strongly suggest getting your order in as quick as possible. If you check the competition you will see we are very competitively priced and the sales are reflecting this, pushing our price up quicker. "

I don't think they'll mind me quoting it... but if someone who works in the shop minds of course feel free to edit.

Well i have to hope it keeps going up as i bought 3 from OCUK and 6 more elsewhere on pre-launch prices (couple for mates and i really meant to cancel some of them before launch but forgot ) Guess i'll hold off selling them till next year then as it's too late to return them now!

Does this increase apply to all SKU's, from looking around, it seems as though Home Premium is taking the biggest hit across the board.

Aren't OEM prices where they'll be, with retail prices rising towards the RRP (£150/£220/£230 for HP/Pro/Ultimate respectively) as vendors exhaust the stock bought at cheaper prices.

Since people know they were selling so cheaply the fact that the rertail price has gone up dosent meant the 2nd hand proce will increase as well.

well, they arent second hand, they are brand new sealed and it's really more important that they wont be on offer again so as long as it's cheaper than current retail they should sell.

This sucks.

I see OCUK's price for Windows 7 Home Premium Retail has shot up to £94.99! Just when I was ready to buy 4 copies of it to sort out all the homes' PCs. All the other suppliers have had an increase of some sort too so my frustration is not centered on OCUK.

Yes I was warned, but that doesn't make it any of a lesser of a bitter pill to swallow.

Changing my strategy to getting the family pack (upgrade) and upgrade 3 of them instead, saving £150!

To be fair, £94 is a very good price for an operating system (in my opinion) - particularly for retail. OEM is also only £15ish cheaper, so the flexibility retail gives you in being able to transfer from motherboard to motherboard is superb value for money. (In my opinion)

Even better when you pay only £44 for one xD

The price of Ultimate Retail has gone down though, I paid £174 here at ocuk on launch, its now £169... not much I know, but still, it's going the wrong way!

Question:

When the W7 RC licence i have on my laptop expires in March, will I get the option then to buy the licence then or should I get a new licence now?

Get one now, you'll just have to buy a full one when the time comes otherwise..

It'll have to be a clean install too, no upgrade
