windows 7 ram usage

i've got windows 7 64 bit pro, 6 gigs of ram installed, and resource monitor (task manager->performance tab->resource Monitor button->memory tab) showed that other than 'in use' memory and 'modified memory' , nearly all of my ram was 'standby' memory (something like 4 gigs) i.e. very little was 'free'.

I ended up changing memory mapping in the bios off (I new the implications of this) and booting up, rebooting into the bios and turning it back on again, now 4 gigs of ram are 'free' as I would expect.

anyone else see a discrepancy in resource monitor? I'm on a p5k-e wifi mobo btw.

thanks mrk, that makes good sense, it's odd that my free memory has increased significantly now, and standby has correspondingly reduced, maybe ive upset superfetch somehow.
