Windows 7 Resolution Problem

I'm not sure if this is the right place but if it isn't could mods move it.

So, I've installed Windows 7 RC which I burnt on disc awhile back but didn't have the chance to install it.
When I successfully installed Windows 7, I noticed my monitor resolution not meeting its maximum potential. The max is 1600x1024 or 1680x1050 but it should be 1920x1080.
However if I use VGA -> DVI the screen resolution can display max but DVI -> DVI its capped as above.
The problem doesn't lie on the monitor as It's working perfectly fine when using vista x64.

Nvidia GTX 260 (updated to newest)
Samsung 2333SW 23" widescreen HDTV. (had 2 sockets;DVI, VGA)
Windows 7 RC

Have you installed the official drivers for your Monitor?
I'd recommend going back to Version 1,82 Nvidia Drivers as for me they are the most stable and remove a lot of bugs that the newer drivers can often introduce.

Give those a try and see if anything changes.
 
The monitor is plug/play so there's no driver I don't think. And for installing an older driver I'm not too keen on that one. That's because when I didn't install the newest nvidia driver my DVI connection wouldn't even display and when Installed the release driver in July it fixed the problem.
 
Well, for my vista x64 using either DVI/VGA connection it would display 1920x1080 (max I can use)
But on windows 7, only DVI doesn't give max. And it's not like the screen will go blank if I pick the resolution but the fact it's not even their.
So when I pick extend monitor I can see the VGA giving max and DVI not despite the same monitor.
 
Leung, open up the Windows Update window and goto Optional updates, see if there's an entry for your monitor there. There was for mine.
 
Thanks for the quick reply, but I've already tried it. There's is only 1 optional update left which is my razer keyboard.

Edit: In device manager it shows my VGA has the actually monitor but my DVI as 'Generic Non-PnP monitor. However I don't see this would be a problem as it shows the exact same in vista x64 but no problem..
 
Oh, When I was trying to search for a solution couple days ago, I came across a software called powerstrip which you can create a custom resolution.
I've tried/created the resolution but it's really fuzzy (like its moving up/down)

Right click and see if u can update the driver in the device Hardware manager. That's what I did once on one of my devices, can't remember which.

it might then go online and find something additional for you.

I've tried it before, and just did again. It just says its updated. I've also tried uninstalling and 'scan for hardware changes' but still the same.
 
Here is your problem > "Generic Non-PnP monitor", it should be detected as a "Generic PnP monitor", i've had this issue using both DVI and HDMI, it turned out to be a faulty cable in both cases.
