Can anyone help?

All of a sudden my computer has started restarting instead of shutting down. It powers off for a few seconds, as if it has shut down, but then boots back up! I have tried a couple of fixes -

- changing a reg key as suggested by a random Google search
- performing a start-up repair
- Checking all devices in my bios are set not to wake the computer up (same with USB devices in device manager).

I have also suddenly received a USB error that a device has malfunctioned and that windows cannot recognise it (strange since all my USB devices are working fine!).

Virus scan next I think.

Any other suggestions?

Yep, that was the next thing I tried and that fixed the USB error.

Still have the computer powering itself back on - same thing happens when I put it to sleep too

Only time I've seen this is a problem with the motherboard or PSU. I'd start with resetting the motherboard, upgrading it if possible and checking for shorts, then I'd check the buttons on the case before trying a different PSU if you have one.

Clearing the CMOS worked :D

I decided to take out the battery for a little while. I had previously tried using the reset button, but clearly that wasn't sufficient. Thanks guys!
