Just wanted to ask.
I have win7 retail! can this be installed on as many pc's as i like ?
As i want to sell a pc with my win 7 installed, and then copy the disc to go with pc, so they have a spare copy of my disc? this ok to do? well i know i can do it, but will it course any problems for me etc..
Maybe silly question, but i really dont know

Cheers.

1 license for 1 pc, you will run in to all sorts of problems. for one its illegal an.
afraid if you sell the computer with that windows installed you will have to supply them with the disc and you can no longer use it.

If I understand your post correctly then no, what you are proposing to do is illegal.

The retail licence allows you to move the install from one pc to another but it must only be on one machine at once.

You can sell the machine with W7 installed, but you then cant use that licence key again (using the disc doesn't matter, its the licence key that is important)

If you are selling a new PC, it is cheaper to install the OEM copy. OEM and Retail are both just one licence keys, unless you buy directly from Microsoft a family pack, if they still do them...

Hmmm but when i had vista, that was installed on 3 computers in the house lol
Never had a problem.. so i'm better of selling it formated then ?

I mean how would they find out ?
Cheers.

So what's the differents between OEM and retail? how many times can u install win7 oem on 1 computer ?
Also, the disc i have has win7 32 bit retail, and 64bit. i use 64bit, so no chance of using the 32 bit on the other pc ?

Kind regards thanks.

OEM is basically tied to the motherboard, if you change MB then you need a new licence.

Retail can be installed many times on the one PC (AFAIK) if you change motherboard then you can reinstall again.

The 32bit ant 64bit disks will use the same serial, so no you cant use it on the other PC.

OEM is tied to the motherboard which it is initially installed on. You can reinstall it on that motherboard multiple times but on no other. The only exception is if the motherboard fails and is replaced under an RMA request.

With Retail you can only have it installed on a single machine but you can remove it off the first machine and install it on a second if you want to. But with an individual copy you can only install 64bit or 32bit on the single machine, you cannot install one of each on separate machines.

You may have installed Vista on multiple machines ... doesn't mean that it was legal.

So really i can still install it on another pc in my home and it will work, but it's just not legal!! lol i remeber i used to phone microsoft to activate my windows with vista on 3 pc's like i said. so if that worked i thought win7 would.
well never knew this till now.. :)
