Windows 7 Serial?

Ive upgraded my copy of Windows Vista to Windows 7 Pro via the student offer from Microsoft.

Its asking me to activate, which is fine.

Do I use my serial from the original Vista Box? I cant seem to see a serial from the DVD I got sent through...

Any help would be great. Thanks

You got the serial in the email when you bought the student offer. It was also shown to you on the final screen when buying.
 
If it's an upgrade version you don't get a key and you have to use an older one, so your old Vista box should do fine.

You definitely don't get an email with a key.
 
Actually, that might be wrong. I was pretty certain you needed an old key but people from the States are saying they've been told it's a full version. I definitely didn't get a key in my email but I've not got my hands on the box yet, so I'm not 100% sure.

EDIT: Aaaah, apologies, AtreuS was (mainly) right. You DO get a key but it's not in the confirmation email you get when you buy it, it's in the email that tells you it's now available for download. I've no idea why they called it an Upgrade version then.

The 2 Emails I have from them dont seem to have that, I'll get in touch see if they can re send it.

Also It doesnt come in a box, more of a card sleeve and that definetly doesnt have the serial on it as far as I can tell
 
You should have three emails from them:

-The first telling you you're eligible to buy it, and a link to the shop.

-The second confirming your order.

-The third telling you it's now available. It's this email you're looking for. If you pre-ordered it before the release you want the email sent on the 22nd October, not the day you bought it.
 
I got 2 emails. One to say i was eligible and that gave me the link to go ahead and buy it. The second email was my order invoice and that had the keycode on it. Seems some people are getting 3 mails and some are getting 2 :p

You can do a clean install if you either download the ISO or make your own using the guides on google from your download. When you install select custom install and dont enter the key but just install without.

You then have 30 days to enter the key, some people have found that the key wont work by entering it in the usual place, if this happens to you then goto the "anytime upgrade" link thing and enter it there.

DampCat: did you order it before it was released? I only got a third email to say "it's up on the servers for download now". If you bought it on/after the 22nd just look for the last one they sent you.

EDIT: Simon, the one I got with the key was called "Windows 7 Offer - Product Now Available (Order #XYZ) ", if that helps.
