Basically i have a windows 7 box acting as a file server etc (i have my reasons so please dont ask)

Now i want my local machines to be able to just open the shares and see the files, however it is requiring a login, and my mac is failing to connect to it. Im sure this has something to do with the permissions but im stuck, anyone help?

Make sure that in both Security and Network Permissions you set Everybody to be able to read and write.

Alternatively if you want to prevent outsiders accessing them, create identical accounts on the W7 box with the same password - and give those permissions to the files.

Alternatively alternatively, simply have the client machines save the password! OS X will save the password to the keychain too.

Security Permissions are under the Security tab and Network Permissions are under the sharing tab - both of which you will find in a folder's properties page.

[You might need to edit the folder options to turn off simple file sharing to enable the security tab]
