Windows 7/SSD?

Hello everyone

I might be imagining it, but do I recall one time OCUK doing a Windows 7/SSD combo? ....I ask because I suddenly find myself in serious need of a new copy of Windows, and could do with an SSD as well, and I really can't afford to spend any more than absolutely necessary this month! Any chance that we might get a deal like this?

Also, could you recommend a cheap, small SSD for games(the idea is to have whichever game I am playing atm on the drive), or is there not much difference between them?

Cheers

Post the question in CS mate, they'll tell ya!

OCZ Vertex 4 is what I'm using. You could also look at aData, Crucial & Intel, but stay away from the Sandforce Controllers.

There was a time when they sold Windows with a hard drive, but I think Microsoft didn't like that very much as it was an OEM license.

Get an upgrade pack maybe?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Plextor M5S 128GB Solid State Drive - (PX-128M5S) £82.99
1 x Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Edition - from XP SP3 / Vista / Windows 7 £44.99
Total : £127.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

The windows 8 Pro OS to buy is £110 so that doesn't work out too sad. Infact you could give the evaluation edition of windows 8 enterprise a whirl for 3 months for free to see if you really dislike it. That way you can just pay for the SSD now and can worry about the OS later, 60GB will save you £20 but I'd be happier with 128GB.

Unfortunately, I cannot use an upgrade edition. I got scammed by a pirated Windows 7(bought from Amazon marketplace- learned my lesson, just because it has the Amazon name, doesn't make it any safer than E-bay!).

Basically, the W7 version that I bought over 2 years ago recently ran out, stating that it was not a real copy, so I really need to get a new one. It is a real pain, as I was really planning on not spending much over the next few months. It still has limited functionality, but will not update and stops some games from running properly.

So I am stuck needing a new version and really need to spend as little as possible tbh. The OS is more important than an SSD atm, as I do already have one.

I will look into the W8 evaluation, thanks. I wish I had bought it when it was on offer really!

Just think, if Intel is using SF in their SSDs then there should be a geneuine strategy and obviously showcases the quality of SF. I am using Intel 520 series of SSD and it really works like a charm. I think SF has already gone through the rough patch and out of it. After googling a lot about SF, I found out that - SF based issues are just a perception & the ratio of people really having issues is really small. Shocking but realy true!!

I upgraded from Windows 7, in a very similar situation. :p

If anything, if you can get a copy of XP you can upgrade from that, and I must say with an SSD, Windows 8 is definitely worth every penny!

Just get yourself a copy win 7 & a crucial/samsung ssd, windows 8 is not the way to go as its to tablet orientated and we all know what happens with new operating systems.

windows 98 rev B
Window ME (abortion)
Win xp good
Vista nasty
Win 7 (Good but I love xp still)

I don't know if this applies to Win8, but certainly with Win7 it was/is possible to use an upgrade version to do a clean install, all it needed was a single registry change to fool it into thinking it had been used to upgrade.
Google it, there are guides out there.

Mate, you may qualify for a Microsoft complimentary replacement programme.

I've bought similar scammed Windows 7 on Ebay over year ago, and in January it seemed it was MSDN key-based solution. I wrote to both PayPal and Ebay, but they both were extremely unhelpful. And unproffessional, BTW.

This is my story:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-genuine/7056d94d-da43-49c5-ad25-d0c6e6bce242

So I've found this:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/howtotell/default.aspx

.. applied... sent out this scammed copy & all documents to Microsoft/Ireland with recorded delivery.. and finally few days ago Microsoft informed me I was positive qualified, so within few weeks I should receive original Windows 7.

:o - It's windows 7 with a new start menu, tweaked to run faster and perform better with apps incorporated a lot better. I defend it because, everyone see's the UI and thinks Bleughhh, when it's easy to adapt and use + better value for money then buying a W7 key when you can get W8 for cheaper.

And even then if it's still a problem, you could always go start8 :p

Thanks for that. I am going through it now:)

Mine is an MSDN key as well apparently. It is a real PITA....never even occurred to me that it might be fake.
