Windows 7 takes over 4 minutes to startup!

Its not very well known - may even be fixed with recent updates not sure - however if your using a fullsized image as a background that won't be whats causing the slowdown.

Ran that chkdsk /f.

No bad sectors were found, everything was good. Also ran that HDtune test and it said the drive was healthy and no bad areas were found.

So it's not the hard drive, it must be some process causing it to be delayed.

Any idea's guys?

Also I can't seem to get that Soluto program to tell me what processes are taking so long during startup.

Personally, I'd just get a 64gb ssd (crucial m4) and boot off that. If memory serves me right. That drive you're using is a slow one at multiple file access (better as a storage drive) I am posting on my phone though. So can't check

Not an option. I know something is stopping the system from booting normally. Just need to find out what it is.

Finally got Soluto to work, here is what it's telling me:

I've cut a few programs that I can disable without it making any difference. Boot time is down to 5 minutes from almost 7 minutes.

I've just restarted and now I get Win Installer taking a lot of time:

No idea what svchost sysnet is to be honest, could it be spyware? ;o

I just gave Soluto a try. Glad im getting an SSD in a few days, thats one of the worst apps i have ever installed. It seemed like spyware itself and looks like something I would find on my aunties old pc that had AOL on!

edit - I also left bootracer running. The old time i rebooted with Soluto installed, my total time to desktop went from ~27 seconds to 47. It took another 17 seconds from time from login to desktop. Very handy app for increasing your startup time!

Personally id do as bledd said. OS SSD and keep your nice 2 tb drive for media only
Failing that, format the 2 tb drive after backing up and reinstall . Be sure to keep a clone of your drive on a cheapo sata drive incase you get a virus/spyware or just want to go back to a fresh start with apps & updates already installed

You would advocate spending more money on an SSD rather than the OP fixing the problem? What if they OP cannot afford/justify an SSD? Sure, it'll fix the issue, but it's a bit drastic.

I would boot into safemode and do a full spyware scan with different programs and post results back.

I was thinking about getting a SSD but can't really afford it right now and to be fair I would rather fix this problem because it was working fine a few months ago.

Ive had spyware and viruses on my machine in the past and helped others sort problems. It usually takes more time to run spyware removal programs and scanning for issues, booting into safe mode etc than it does to format and re-install Windows.

I remember once I spent half a day on my aunties pc running different programs to try and sort the issue, sometimes when you run removal programs, registry etc it just activates something else and the problem comes back or is sometimes worse. If it takes 8 minutes to book, imagine how long it would take to run a deep virus or malware scan.

With my aunties after half a day I stopped trying to sort it because it had that many problems. The next day I backed up documents to a memory stick (trying to make sure that didnt get infected too) formatted and re-installed Windows. This maybe took 1 hour instead of 6

It strikes me that you have quite a lot of files missing - whether these are system files or the remains of a virus, I am not 100% certain of.

How hard would it be to reinstall?

There's a looooooooooooooot of very dodgy looking .exe files that are supposed to run from system32, that can't be normal.

Which program in that log is the actual AV-program, can't see one?

i'd remove the usb3 monitor from start up unless your running an ssd.

as per milano couldn't find anything good about svchost sysnet, have you checked your services.msc list to see if you can find the entry for it and disable it to see how it runs ?

As above, remove the USB3 stuff, it's not needed.

Then open cmd prompt and run "sfc /scannow" and let it scan through. Reboot and see what happens.

If there is a chance of you backing up documents and vital data to an external drive and reformatting and reinstalling Windows then that may be the best course of action all things considered.
