Windows 7 Updates - Need Advice

So basically, I have done a clean install of windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

The problem is how should the updates be installed?

I've read online that I should avoid specific updates due to windows 10 and telemetry. There is even updates which gradually slow down your PC (probably to persuade you to upgrade to windows 10) which is pretty shocking.

I'd like to know whats the best practice in dealing with Windows Updates.

Some people are saying to avoid the blacklisted(windows 10/Telemetry) updates and selectively install only the required ones.
Others are saying to install all updates and then uninstall specific ones later. its to prevent any problems with future updates.

So, some advice would be great.

I'd also like to know if there are any programs which deal with windows 7 updates (e.g. to blacklist any updates and install needed ones). I can't seem to find any online. and its surprising that there isn't one.

Thanks.

Honestly these days I just install 7, slap service pack 1 on and pretty much leave it at that (and make sure firewall, etc. wise I'm upto speed) suck but anything newer seems to either result in slow down or undesirable "features" :(

As far as any consideration for the quality of experience for the user MS has gone to hell these days.

I've not seen these slowdowns?

I'm not sure that the OP's problem is being unable to install updates, but being unsure which updates to install. For example, in case they have Windows 10 forced upon them, or additional telemetry is installed.

I wouldn't worry about Windows 10 being pushed upon you. I Don't Want Windows 10 can help you get rid of any nag messages.

Regarding telemetry. I would do your own research and you'll find there are common services and tasks mentioned. From your search, you'll be be in a better position what to turn off or leave on. I don't use Windows 7, so it'd be wrong to advise what to disable. Here is a link to shed loads of information for you: Stop Windows Telemetry/Tracking/Upgrading to Win10

You will not get any messages about upgrading to W10 due to the free year being long over with, the messages only appeared when trying to get people to upgrade for free but now that is over with no more popups.

This. Plus, as long as you opt out of the Customer Experience Program, you will avoid a lot of the telemetry too.

They also sent out updates to get rid of GMX.

the funny thing is in the last 6 months someone cough os makers made updates such a pain in the ass to get that many gave up.lol i put win 7 on a machine today instant updates with no installing this or that.its like it should be .

maybe they fixed whatever was wrong or its just not worth trying to force people to win 10.

I have.

Windows Update is basically a bitcoin miner or some other CPU hijack type malware now. It just sits there eating up a whole core 100% for an indefinite amount of time, could be 5 hours, could be 500 hours. That's an insane amount of CPU time being used, and it's certainly not being used for "updating" anything whatsoever.
