Windows 7 upgrade edition

To install the upgrade version legally you need

a) a previous version of windows for that machine or
b) a retail version of a previous windows which can be used for any machine.

anything else, you should buy the retail version or OEM full version.

Not too sure why you quoted myself, I agree with you.
With regards to myself I did previous own a full retail of xp.
