hi

i would like to change the background image on the windows 7 welcome screen where it has the login accounts.

is it possible to do as i have this horrible acer background , if so how?

thanks:)

as far as i'm aware, the logon-screen's background is part of winlogon.exe, so you'll need to replace yours with a normal one. i think.

did'nt really want to use third party software, there is a way where you have to locate a file in the regedit 'hklm\software\microsoft\....... cant remember the whole path but i could not find it?

Check this file out - I think it's the one that controls the login screen, but to change it you'll need to change the permissions to allow you to overwrite it.

C:\Windows\System32\oobe\background.bmp

Change the reg: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background\OEMBackground" to 1

Add the background you want into windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds folder. Call it backgroundDefault.jpg

It needs to be a Jpeg and less than 245kB. It's also best to make it the same size as the screen res.

I'm using this:

logonscreen.jpg
