Windows 7 - Which do I need?

Which windows 7 do I need? I have Vista and want a fresh install to 64bit. Which copy do I get, upgrade or full?

It is up to you. Personally I would try and get the full Retail copy - since it gives you the freedom to install it anywhere, whenever you want.

The Upgrade is great if you want to save money, and don't plan to install it elsewhere in the future.

So the upgrade does allow me to do a fresh install to 64bit over my 32bit vista? I'm only planning to install it on my laptop.

Yep you can do a clean install with the Upgrade media. All it needs it to detect a previous version of Windows.

Remember, if you're a student, police officer, nurse etc. you may be eligible for a pretty hefty discount on the upgrade version.

Sorry but I can't find the Police discount (I'll carry on looking though). I think my brother (Manchester Police) told me about so it's probably a police discount website or something similar. Sorry I can't be of more help.

If your uni has a student MSDN programme you can get Windows 7 Pro for free!

Don't know, got it for £30 anyway. Quite good, just sorting the drivers out, annoying.
