Wondering what peoples next step would be... pc worked a few days ago went to boot last night and cant get past the bios screen. I think the hard drive is goosed (samsung spinpoint f1 1tb 7200rpm)

Iv tried changing the boot order around in bios, it is picking up the sata hard drive and sata dvd drive but has them set to ide. Changed them to ahci no change. Board is asus m4a88td-v evo/usb3

Tried putting windows 7 disc in to try repair but does nothing after prompted to press any key to load
cant see any option to start in safe mode. (f8 brings up boot order)

Even installed windows 7 to a usb stick but wont load it

Cant hear the hard drive spinning or a flashing light on case which i think it did before

Probably missed something but any ideas?

To rule out a dead hard drive I'd beg or borrow another to see if your OS will load on that.

TBH I'm with you, a goosed drive it sounds to me too.

Only other hard drive i have is an ide drive from an old machine with an os on it (prob xp). Will this just boot the version that was on there?

I have had problems with Windows 7 starting a couple of times, thew first was when my hd was starting to fail with bad sectors and it has happened again when I overclocked my pc, Windows 7 doesnt always like overclocks

Set your BIOS to IDE & see if Windows 7 will install & BOOT

More so than anything else, I'm very much a suck & see type of person. I'd give it a go.

Definitely would get an SSD, What even is a HDD anymore ;) JK

+ 1 HDDs are on the verge of going the same way as floppy disks. I saw a guy selling floppies 100 at a time @ computer fair, I picked a bundle up & examined them, I said to seller "What are these"?
