Am running a Msi P67A - gd 65 board with 8gb ram (4 x 2bg)+i2700k + 120gb (ocz vertex 3) ssd/windows drive and a 256gb plextor data drive.
Windows 7 64bit oem .
Sons comp. is a s939 dual core + 1gb ram etc - xp
-------------------
Bought windows 7 ultimate retail (64 & 32 bit) and decided to 'upgrade' both sons and my own.
--------------------
Mine - use the cpu + the ssds's . Have bought an Asus P8Z68V - gen 3 board + 8gb ram (2 x 4gb 1866 tracer).
Sons - he will get my existing board + my 4 x 2gb 1600 ram + a spare 750gb 'black' hd I have to hand. + a new celeron G540.
To save/re-use my existing windows 7 have decided that , probably, best approach is :-
1. Swap new cpu for existing 2700 in my board.- re-boot and settle(any problems)
2. Clone the windows drive (ocz ssd) to the wd black - take out the ocz drive , re-boot and settle
3. Install my 'old' board ,with new bits, in his case
Hopefully his 'new' computer will now be running windows 7 -64bit oem
4. Put new board etc in my case - install windows ultimate 64 bit on the ocz windows drive - install data ssd.
Hopefully my 'new' computer will be running windows ultimate 64 bit.
Any 'flaws' in my thinking?
Views much appreciated
n.b. Just to add i'm running 7950 gpu and son is running 5770 gpu - both of which will be re-used
