Hi,

I've been doing a fresh install of Windows 7 on my PC and I'm coming up against a problem with each install I try.

It goes past the unpacking of files and installing etc and then restarts. On restart it goes to the starting Windows screen and then the monitor goes into hibernation and that's it. There is some disk activity though.

I've tried starting the PC is safe mode and it gets to the 'Starting windows for the first time' screen and then states that Installation cannot continue in Safe Mode.

Last known good config option causes the rig to restart at the same screen too.

I've tried 2 different ISO images and 2 different editions of Windows 7 and the problem is the same. I suspect my GPU may be the issue as I had RC running fine (albeit with a different GPU). Strangeley enough with the RC install I replaced the GPU with my current one (Gigabyte 4870 1Gb) and it was fine.

Can anyone shed an light on the problem?

I would say defo a gpu driver issue, you will have to get a loan of something else,

I had this way back in vista, trying to install with an 8800 and the drivers supplied with the RC were ok but the RTM needed a old basic card i had lying around.

Once yor past it get the proper ati drivers from the website and install, then try your card again

Could also try load bios defaults and remove any overclocks you may have on GPU or motherboard/memory/cpu first

Thanks for your suggestion. I've not done any overclocking so no need for defaults. It's a little dissapointing really if I'm honest. I don't have some exotic setup, I'd hoped it would just work out of the box.

I'll try swapping the GOU over tomorrow and report back in case anyone else has this problem. :)
