Windows 7 x64 stuck on installing updates

Hey,

Can anyone tell me why my windows 7 install hangs on the installing updates part, and does absolutely nothing afterwards? I've got sata controller to raid, but I'm certain it just worked before, and yet now it doesn't.

A neighbour had problems with repeated failure of the same update day after day. It turned out to be a NET framework problem. It's not exactly your problem but could be worth a try:
Go to Start/Control Panel
Click Programs and Features (choose ‘classic view’ if you can’t see it)
From program list click on Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and then select Uninstall/Change (at the top).
In the small window that pops up select the ‘repair’ option and click ‘next’. This may take a considerable time but eventually you’ll see the green progress bars slowly repairing your system. I found it very very slow.
When that’s done you need to run outstanding updates. Click Start/All Programs/Windows Update and select ‘check for updates’.
If you're lucky your updates will now install.

Hey mate,

It was actually installing windows that was causing the hanging not a windows update as such. Turned out to be a faulty hard drive! Thanks anyway though
